Moroccan Road Trip: A Summer Full of Stories
Some journeys inspire so deeply that you don’t just want to capture the magic, but also share it. That’s exactly what happened when I made a road trip with my son Sydney last year. Not just the lovely people but also the high Atlas mountains, vast sand dunes, lush oases, and ancient casbahs left an indelible mark. The colors, scents, and stories of this extraordinary land became the foundation for our new summer collection: Moroccan Road Trip.
From Inspiration to Reality
There was no doubt about it—this collection had to be photographed in Morocco. So we set off with our team: me as the creative director, Maud as assistant stylist and videographer, Inge as stylist and makeup artist, Catherine De Seagher as photographer, and Dave as assistant photographer. Our model, Basma, was already waiting for us in Marrakesh, where two rental cars were ready for our road trip to the heart of Morocco.
After a long drive, we reached our first stop: the second-largest oasis in Africa. Surrounded by swaying palm trees and shimmering grains of sand, we immersed ourselves in a setting that perfectly reflected our collection. Early rises, the steamer in hand, Inge working her magic with makeup, and then—magic. Amid curious locals on donkeys and scooters, we captured images that perfectly embody the spirit of Moroccan Road Trip—joyful, warm, and full of life.
A Kasbah with a Soul
On our second day, we got the chance to shoot in an ancient casbah. I had discovered this place during my road trip with Sydney and instantly fell in love. Jawal, one of the inhibitors of the casbah, gave us a complete tour. I then knew I had to come back! Staying here felt like stepping back in time; the stories of the residents and the soul of the building were almost tangible. The hospitality and stories of Jawal brought not only the location but also the K&J collection to life.
The DNA of Kate&Jules
While this collection is infused with Moroccan inspiration, the DNA of Kate&Jules remains strong. This summer, we worked hard on silk, summery pieces that perfectly align with our sense of effortless elegance. New this season are the dresses with a cord to tie, a subtle yet playful addition to our collection. We’ve also delved deeper into knitwear—an essential part of Kate&Jules. Since the seasons often overlap, we focus on airy, versatile knitwear that you can throw over your outfit. No bulky winter coats, but light, versatile pieces you can wear all year long—just as Kate&Jules intended.
A Last Evening Full of Magic
After an impressive shoot, a visit to Jawal home, and a final meal at the casbah, we headed back to Marrakesh. With the daylight on our side, we appreciated the breathtaking landscape even more. Once in the city, we ended our trip as it should be: getting lost in the souks, soaking in the magic of Jemaa el-Fna square, and having dinner together in a charming restaurant—with an unexpected surprise of belly dancers making the evening even more unforgettable.
A few hours later, we were already up, flying home with suitcases full of memories and a collection that makes our hearts race. Moroccan Road Trip is not just a collection. It’s a story, an adventure, a piece of Morocco you carry with you.
Keep Exploring. Keep Wandering.
This collection is more than just a piece of clothing—it’s a reminder to keep pushing your limits, to continue exploring, and to chase new horizons. Let each piece from our Moroccan Road Trip collection serve as a symbol of your journey, wherever it takes you. The world is full of wonder, and just like you, we believe it’s meant to be explored.
Lots of love,
The Kate&Jules Team
